Suffering from radiation damage to sigmoid colon and acute diverticulitis. Best help so far one large tablespoon of metamucil before bed, at least one chewable imodium tablet after 1st bm in a.m. and suppository after breakfast to evacuate bowel. Usually o.k after about 10:30 a.m. bm's mostly caused by food intake. Seaching for a more effective remedy, have had to stop air travel for fear of need to immediately have a bm. Sometimes do not have more than ten seconds or less to get to bathroom.

Something you might try is taking a calcium supplement that is fairly low in magnesium, like Caltrate Plus or OsCal. Calcium naturally causes constipation and magnesium causes diarrhea, so when combined they usually counteract one another, but I have had great success with the Caltrate Plus as it doesn't have that much magnesium. Some people have to go to the OsCal, which has no magnesium at all. Start out with one pill with each meal, if you find you get too constipated cut down to one in morning and one in evening. I am now down to one per day, at night.

Hope this helps you.

Christine
