Hi! I suffer from IBS-C. Lately I feel like I have a lump in my throat. I would not say my throat is sore, but it feels swollen. I think the problem is located near my "Adam's Apple". Does anyone have the same problem? What could it be. I hate to visit doctor's.

Sage,
Sorry I don't have any info, but I believe my little girl suffers from IBS and one of her symptoms is lump in throat and also dryness of mouth. She has always complained of abdominal pains, but just lately about the lump in her throat.

Could it be a thyroid problem ??

If you have C as well as a lump in the throat it could be caused by an underactive thyroid. Do you have any weight gain or puffiness of skin? If you have all of these symptoms then from my experience of people close to me with this condition it is quite likely to be due to this.

Thyroid problems are usually caused by an imbalance of thyroxine hormone, if this is your problem a visit to the doctor could sort this out. My mother has the condition and just takes a tablet of thyroxine per day to get back to normal.

It is one of the things that can be easily treated. Do visit your doctor.

God bless

Hi Sage:

I also have IBS C, but have never experienced a lump in my throat. I have found lumps in my neck due to my fibromyalgia. Do you have difficulty swallowing?

I agree with Al, you should have this checked out by your doctor. I have a friend that had a thyroid problem and it started out with a lump in her throat.

Have it checked out to give yourself a peace of mind.

Good Luck & God Bless

I also have IBS-C and the lump in the throat. My thyroid has been checked tons of times because I'm so underweight, but it's always normal. Sometimes I wish it would come back abnormal, just so there would be a cure.

I'm not saying it isn't a thyroid problem with you, and by all means you should get it checked out. The lump in the throat is listed as a symptom of IBS, so it may be just that. I've had it for years, and it gets worse when I'm stressed, almost like my throat is closing up and I have the almost constant feeling that I'm swallowing around the lump. Very strange, indeed, but if it's from the IBS you can at lease not worry about that aspect. And if it is your thyroid, that's quite treatable...a word we IBS-ers don't hear too often.

Good Luck!
