Ok this is gross.
I was smelling really badly lately and finally figured out why. Apparently I am leaking a sort of mucous everytime I expell gas. I can't feel it and wouldn't have known it except it showed up on my feminine napkins. This led me to wonder if maybe others who seem to have an odor are experiencing this too. I thought it was just because I had smelly gas but the odor tended to linger way too long for that to be the answer. It is really odd because I am constipated yet I am leaking. Anyone else with this awful problem?

Yes I do have this same trouble, when my IBD acts up. One of my Dr's explained to me that when you are constipated sometime the only thing that can get through is the liquid, so when you expel gas, there is so much stuff that a little gets pushed out. Relieve the C & you probably will elimate your leaking.
Even when i had severe D, I had x-rays & the told me i was still Full of .... & that's why the D.

I wouldn't be surprised, espacially with the severe cramping alot of us have, I know my spasms could shoot a small torpedo across the room.....I should own 1/2 of the Kotex co. Keep some baby butt wipes wipes handy

I tried to laugh about this stuff or else I'd go crazy. My hubby begs me to stop with the descriptions.. I'll tell ya that butt chappin ain't funny, the creams make me feel mushy, I just want to walk around with no drawers for a little airin', if you know what I mean. Take care all.

Nicol and Lucky--you ain't the only ones!!!

This is gross, but here goes...

When my IBS is really bad, my intestines get so swollen that my anus kinda turns inside out (gross!!) and my spincter no longer seems to work--my whole digestive tract goes ballistic on me!!! I constantly get "skidders" (skid-marks) on my undies and I don't even feel it happenin'--my hubby can always tell when I'm having a relapse 'cause I leave my hand-washed undies drying all over the bathroom! Finally decided to wear pads, and thanks to Lucky's suggestion, got me some butt-wipes too :-) Thankfully, I'm going back into remission, but that last bout was something I'll NEVER forget :-(

And the Doc's wonder why we IBSer's seem to be xtra sensitive about our BM's. First time one of them looses control they would be scarred to . I to feel I am in a remission, but unfirtunately I know that one day when I least expect it I hear my bowels say, RUN YOUR GONNA POOP YOUR PANTS!!!!!!(just like candid camera). Reading all the other posts makes me realize how fortunate I am & that make me try to fight this harder. You know I'd enjoy a bad day of oh I don't know, bouncing a check, having a tiny fender bender, but my bad days are like most other IBSer's bm accidents, you can never forget them.

Hey guys, I know it's gross but I'm glad we're talking about it. I'm male and have problems with passing/ sometimes leaking mucus. I think I could deal with everything else but the mucus is the real killer. Usually I can wait a while after a BM and the mucus will stop. But I could wipe all day if I wanted. I can tell that if I have alot of mucus I'm still going to have more bowel movement. It usually calms down after I've evacuated the majority of stool. I've been having alot of incomplete evacuations, I think because of the mucus. Untill recently I thought I was the only one. I have an extra pair of underware everywhere I go. Thanks for talking about it.

Well I have heard that triple care incontinent cream by smith and nephew is good. There is also calmoseptine lotion too. I like to use those hemmroid wipes myself.
I have been wearing those really slim pantyliners so that when things start to smell I can just take it out and it is like I have a fresh pair of undies on. Hey Brian, I would give those a try on the bad days. You would think that with passing all of this mucous it would be easier to pass the stool too!
Yes it is nice to know that we are not alone!!

Yeah Nicol, that makes sense. But I think all the mucus ends up breaking up the stool. At least in my case. But you know, I haven't experienced any odor luckily.

Hey BK you are probably right because that is what it sure looks like when it comes out. I hope the odor stays away!!

You know, whenever I have a bowel prep for a procedure, my leaking and urgency seem to be a lot better. I think it's the enema...sort of cleans you out and gets rid of those symptoms, at least for a while. Anybody else have the same experience? (Not that I'm advocating enemas, but I was so desperate, I was close to giving myself one during this last bout!!)
