an unbelievable thing happened today!

I went to the doctors because I have been feeling really knackered for ages now, and falling asleep all over the place! (i thought I had better get my blood checked as my mum has anemia and thyroid probs)

And the DOCTOR...not me! Brought up my stomach problems, and said it could all be related and that we really ought to look into what is causing this constant c and d and see if we can make it better, then I would probably have a lot more energy!

I couldn't believe it! A doctor who actually takes this seriously and wants to investigate it further!!!

I am still reeling in shock!

I am going to go back and see her next week to find out my blood test results. Hopefully then if they are all ok, she will try and help my ibs!!!

Oh, enna, good for you! Isn't it great when aprofessional takes us seriously? We are so used to being told "its in your head" "Eat more fiber," yada yada yada....that when someone treats us like its real, we celebrate!

P.S. I love your syntax! "Kanckers!" LOL! Keep using your native slang so I can get my chuckles. Some day I am going to come and visit you, mark my words!!

sisyphus, oops does knackered mean something a little more specific than just tired and worn out, in america?! I have a nasty feeling that I think I know what it means to you!!! ooopsey!

Same as you all better not start talking about sore fannys or something, or I will be giggling!!!

I have had IBS for 3 years now and have come down with anemia twice, so I think it has something to do with it. I'm so tired all the time and have been on iron pills for a month, but it takes time to build up. Glad to hear your doc is looking into it, at least it will put your mind at ease. Take care.

Enna, What great news for you. A doctor who actually has a good bedside manner. I don't know much about your history, so excuse me if this is a repeat. Have you had thorough testing to rule out other bowel disorders? When my Crohn's disease is an active state, I suffer from extreme tiredness. I feel lucky if I make it through a day without falling asleep. I know that anemia can do the same thing, so I am hoping this is what is causing your tiredness.

Let us know what you find out.

doc phoned me today, i do have anemia, got to go gobble some iron pills.

my blood iron level was 113 last year (115-> being normal) but it has dropped to 106.

do you think that iron will help my ibs symptoms too? The doc warned me it might cause more c!!! I hope not!

can't wait to feel awake again though!

enna - I was slightly anemic about 8 years ago and starting taking iron supplements and they did constipate me. At that time I didn't have IBS so that bothered me slightly. I wonder if once your bloodlevels normalize you can get your iron through your diet - maybe eat spinach or something. I'm glad to hear that you have a good doctor! I noticed you said "she" - I have noticed that the female doctors that I have gone to have taken me more seriously than the male ones! I used to have a WONDERFUL female doc but my husband switched jobs and therefore we went to another HMO. I miss her. She really cared about me. Well tell us if she finds out anything more!
