I started on Caltrate Plus on Saturday and I have been D free and pain free since then. I must admit I am now C but I have gone down to one Caltrate Plus a day. So nice without pain. I have even started to eat a few foods that I normally would stay away from. I feel so much happier.

Jayne! Congratulations! Isn't it great? I'm only taking one a day and have been since January. I've only had two D episodes, both were food induced (one possibly food poisoning from Chinese food in Las Vegas!!) Otherwise I have somewhat normal stools! I still get rumblings and often panic, but it's NEVER D!! It takes awhile to build up your self confidence and trust yourself when you're out though. I still have bloating and some pain though..if that would be treated as easily I'd be so delighted! Karen R

Come on all of you out there with diarrhea. Go get the caltrate in the purple and white box and take one with each meal and get to feeling better and come and tell us all about you success. It works for a lot of people and if it don't let us know so maybe we can help you adjust your dose. We have a lot of caltrate experience here and we want to help. (Diarrhea IBS Only)

I have been on the caltrate plus for a month now. I, too, was a little sceptical at first, but now will be one of those urging others with D to rush out and buy it. I take one per day now as any more seems to cause C. As long as I stay away from my trigger foods, I stay D free. I am planning on really testing it this weekend as I am traveling and am a little stressed about it,

COME ON CALTRATE, DON'T FAIL ME NOW!!!!!

Would like iformation about Caltrate Plus. Is this an over the counter medicine - at drug stores or at health food centers.
I just found this site and am amazed at finding other people that suffer these problems. Having an bad attack today prompted my internet search.
I have not been diagnosed with IBS - can't seem to get a doctor to pay any attention. I am probably not forceful enough in my complaints.

After taking the recommendations from this board, I started on Caltrate Plus (purple box) a week ago. It has not yet caused any C, and after eating foods that I have stayed away from for years (pizza) I got D, but without the gas pain (which is a great deal better than before).
I am taking 3 per day before dinner. Any dose recommendations? I'm willing to listen!

Well for those of you who asked. Caltrate Plus is a brand name of calcium supplement which you can buy at most grocery stores and drug stores. It contains:
Vitamin D 200 iu
Calcium 600 MG (calcium carbonate)
Magnesium 40 Mg
Zinc 7.5 Mg
Copper 1 Mg
Managnese 1.8 MG
Boron 250 MCG
You should take one with each meal if you are having ibs diarrhea. It usually works in the first few days if not sooner. For me it was the first day. It continues to work for diarrhea now after taking if over a year. There are other forms of calcium but this one seems to be the most effective for diarrhea. It comes in a purple and white box and I would be happy to answer any questions if you email me.

You must take it on a regular basis for it to work and if you stop the diarrhea comes back. It can make you constipated if you take too much but if you do just stop until you have a BM the resume a smaller dose.

Don't wait if you are suffering. It is pretty amazing how well it can work if you work with it to get the right dose for you. Good Luck.

Linda
