Perhaps this has been brought up in the past, but I heard that any Calcium supplements witn Carbonate in can produce both gas and C. It was advised to try the other kinds i.e.; Ca Phosphate or Ca Citrate, I believe. I think Caltrate contains carbonate but I don't have a bottle on me. This of course is important to know for especially those who are Lactose intolerent and have those problems and need to supplement.

Now concerning Magnesium; I just recieved a flyer that says emphatically that you must take Magnesium with your Calcium supplement (they say you need to take twice as much magnesium as calcium). Has anyone heard about that? They say that taking calcium alone can do more harm than good. I have heard that you need Magnesium and Vit. D for the absorption of Calcium. I just worry about taking the right amounts of each. Too much magnesium can cause the D too. I have C and D alternating which I hear is quite typical in IBS. Any thoughts?

The Caltrate Plus has 40 MG of Magnesium and 600 Mg of calcium carbonate and the other ingredients are 200 IU Vitam D, Zinc 7.5 MG, Copper 1 MG, Manganese 1.8 MG and Boron 250 MCG. As you can see the magnesium is not twice as much as the calcium. IF it were you would be in the bathroom forever. This combination is really working wel for me and a lot of others. It must be the relationship of all the ingredients together. The calcium carbonate form remains in the intestines longer and absorbs fluids there and thay is why I think it works better for diarrhea. This is the benefit us folks with diarrhea want from the calcium carbonate.
