Hi everyone,
I'm on my spring break and I've been relaxing at my mom's house for a week, and all of a sudden, all of my IBS symptoms are gone! It's amazing how much of a difference it makes when I get away from college for a little while
Now, my question is, how do I keep my stress levels down while I have to be at school?? I return this coming Monday and I'm scared that I'll be sick all over again. School has been very stressful this year, and I was hoping you all could help me with some stress management techniques other than walking, deep breathing, and listening to music (all of which I have tried but hasn't worked too well so far). If you have any ideas, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks,
Danielle

Danielle the main key to stress management I have found is to make sure you take some time for you.i am learning this. it is hard in college .i took only 2 classes last year and that just abou did me in.(ialso started a new job at the same time Bad idea)
Even if its just a short time.Dont laugh but i color sometimes like a little kid.Doodle art is my favorite.think back to your childhood .What did you have the most fun doing when you were a kid?I also incorporate meditation into my prayers. You will find what works for you .Love Pattee

Danielle, Hi glad to hear youre doing so well . My employer paid alot of money for me to learn what I'm going to tell you and I still laugh because its so easy. Remember in "The Wizard of Oz" when dorothy sings over the rainbow, well thats what I do I find a place over the rainbow. What I mean is think of a place thats very pleasant and relaxing for you. When you are going into a stressful time, go there in your mind and sit and listen to how nice it is and smell the good smells and feel the nice air or what ever is good for you. When a therapist first taught me this I had to do it every night for 15 minutes before I went to sleep. It took a while but it works in a flash now. I've gotten so good at it that when I feel the stress coming on ,part of my brain goes there and the rest of me keeps going without stressing out. I also listen to nature tapes.
I hope this helps you. If youre near the beach in Florida go and just listen to the water it has a calming effect too.

Stress Management Imagery

> | Picture yourself near a stream.

> | Birds are singing in the crisp, cool mountain air.

> | Nothing can bother you here. No one knows this secret place.

> | You are in total seclusion from that place called the world.

> | The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a

> | cascade of serenity. The water is clear.

> |

> | You can easily make out the face of the person whose

> | under the water.

This may be very simplistic, but a good laugh doesn't hurt either. When I am stressed I do find that laughter really helps. How wonderful that being home is peaceful and happy for you. So many people do not have that. When you feel stressed at school try to remember that you can and will always be able to go home.

gal 4, you are too funny!!! yes, laughter definitely helps!
Thanks to all of you for your great suggestions! I just got back to my dorm and it was so wondeful to have all these responses and now I feel ready to face school again tomorrow morning.
I'm going to try all of your great ideas and I'm also going to try and take some more time out just for myself. I'm realizing that I never spend time doing things I like anymore because I'm always thinking about due dates and this really is unhealthy. You all had some great suggestions of what to do during my special time to myself.
Barney, could you tell me a little more about your self-hypnosis techniques? I don't know much about hypnosis but I'm curious.
Thanks,
Danielle

Danielle,

I would feel more comfortable giving you the information by E-mail. If you are interested, please give me a shout. Is that OK?
