JillAnn and I both said we'd love to have Dr. Salt for our MD - we KNOW he'd listen to us! So how about a big IBS Convention - port-a-potties everywhere. We'd have Charmin sponsor us. Free samples of Immodium, tubes of Preparation H samples, Free Tucks medicated pads, samples of Calcium tablets. We could have Dr. Salt give a speech and we'd all get to meet each other?! KarenR

I vote a gigantic YES to this one. Sounds great and wouldn't it be wonderful to meet Dr. Salt and convey our personal thanks to him for paying for this board.

How about holding it right here in sunny Arizona - during one of the winter months, of course.

Hey great idea !!! I live in upstate New York but I bet I could find a doctor or two that would pay my way to Arizona just to get rid of me for a while.

Maybe we should get in touch with a drug company of some kind and we could be guenia pigs for some new stomach drug. That way THEY could pay for our trip!!!! Heaven knows we've all tried enough drugs... what's one more??

Sounds fabulous to me!!!

Jill

I'd gladly make the trip. I don't know that the "meeting" would be a "cure" but I bet we'd all have a damn good time of it!!!!! In that kind of environment (we're "all alike"), I think if we soiled our pants it would be from laughing and not any bad stress or anxiety.

Fun fantasy...BJ

Okay, I'll need two port-a-potties for myself. One as a spare in case the other one breaks down. LindaB, did you offer to have it in Arizona just so you wouldn't have to travel? Wish I had thought of that first.

JillAnn, I love your idea about the drug company paying. God knows I've paid them enough, and I would drink liquified pig poop if it would do the job! Maybe we could even get the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale to participate.

Joe, it was not my intention at all to avoid travel. I love doing that. It's just that I can't think of anyplace better to be during the winter. Dry, sunny, brilliant blue skies - but, of course, overrun with blue haired snow birds (winter visitors).

Heh I'd go too....that sounds like a great idea! I'd do anything and go anywhere if I could get some really good answers and there was a doctor there who really new about IBS and figure out what we should all be doing! I wouldn't even mind there being an herbologist or something like that to figure out if we can go that way I'm for it too.!! Whatever it takes. Scottsdale would be nice! I've been there once and I live no where near there.
LETS KEEP THINKING ABOUT THIS AND SEE IF WE GET ANY RESPONSES FROM DR. SALT!!

Well, I'm the world's worst traveler but it would sure be nice to be among some kindred spirits. I have relatives in Arizona and I"m sure they wouldn't mind all of us making a potty stop. Can you see any of us sitting still long enough for Dr. Salt to make a speech longer than seven minutes? But, heck, he's probably used to "squirmers".

Don't need to worry about potty availability. If there isn't an insider or a 2-holer or a porta-potty, we have lots of wide open spaces and some *really* big saguaro cacti you can always go behind. Just be sure you have t'paper cause the "leaves" on these things can really aggravate an already sensitive butt. Sure hope Brad and Dr. Salt see this thread and consider the convention idea for somewhere.

Just wanted to let you know that I have noted this discussion. I have long thought about some sort of convention for sufferers. It is on our "things we would like to do list." It does not seem that we would be able to pull something like this off for at least a year or two for a few reasons...

1) Very time consuming and expensive to plan.

2) We are working hard on the next book in the series Fibromyalgia & the Mind-Body Connection and other IBS products.

We will continue to kick this idea around.

Brad: THANKS for replying to my message and the postings about an IBS Convention! I'm glad it's an idea that you're kicking around. As IBS sufferers, we'll still be here in the next few years still searching for answers. I live in KY, so coming to OH is pretty easy. I'm sure our IBS friends would travel to most any location to meet Dr. Salt (and you too ) I will be willing to help with this venture, when the time arises, as I'm sure others will. Please know how much we appreciate your work and Dr. Salt's dedication to supporting us! Thanks again, karen r
