Apporoximatly five or six years ago I went to see a proctologist for a problem I was having involving mucus and blood in the stool. He advised that it was irritable bowel syndrome most likely brought on by stress. I do not recall the name of the medication that he prescribed however it was a foam suppository of some sort. The doctor never really explained this condition to me at the time and since it disappeared shortly thereafter and never returned, that is until now, I never really looked into it further. I am not even sure if his diagnosis was correct?? I wonder if I truly did or do have this condition?? The following symptoms are what I am experiencing and I would like to hear from anyone out there who is experencing the same thing. Well hear goes: I just had a baby November 18, 1998. Since then I have been having chest pains off and on, nausea, and most disturbingly accidents consisting of large amounts of mucus only, painful elimination including diarrhea and constipation occurring at the same time??? Also, I am not sure this is related to this condition or not but I also have what feels like arthritis throughout my entire body especially in my feet and ankles do any of you have the same??? Has anyone's condition been brought on or worsened by preganacy??? I plan to go to the doctor for this agian ASAP. However, it is always nice to hear from other people in the same condition...

Hope to hear from any of you,

Wendy

I'm not sure if this will help. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis in '92. It is a difficult thing to manage, stress related, mine is complicated with IBS too. The suppositories were perhaps SALOFALK - mine are not foam, they are solid (ouch) and I use them most nights when D is really active. I don't use them as often as I should. 'rabbit pellet' stools. Lots of blood, mucous and other horrid stuff are frequent, if not daily for me. Terrible involuntary contractions when 'going' leave my stomach sore (and rectum). A fissure adds to the joy of this scenario. Unoperable because the proctologist says I'm just like raw hamburger meat 'down there' - he'd have nothing to sew up. I don't have children, so can't help you with that, but fight with embarassing mucous/blood 'accidents', embarassing (and brutal) gas - truly silent but deadly. Without the suppositories ( I often fall asleep and forget, or just rebel and don't insert one) life gets worse. Hope something in all this drivel helps. Regards and God Bless, JC

Dear J.C., Thank you soo much for your reply. It certainly sounds like your problem is a lot more serious than my own. However, It is comforting to know that someone else is experiencing problems with mucus. It is defintely frightening to see things that are definately not the norm. Someone suggested I try eating rice with either collard greens or kale flavored with Miso three meals a day for one week. I may give this a try. Will let you know if it proves helpful. I hope you feel better. Wendy

I have everything you have, except for the arthritis pain. I was diagnosed with IBS 10 years ago and after my first child my symptoms worsened. After my second child they worsened again. I am currently being tested for Crohn's disease. I had a c-section with both and I think that the section had something to do with my bowel problems worsening.
