I am suspecting that I may have a partial bowel obstruction and am wondering if anyone else has had that problem and what should I be looking for in terms of signs, etc. I have been suffering alot lately, as many of you know from my posts, and I am just curious about a possible obstruction. What procedures are done to rule it out and/or diagnose it?

Thanks for your replies!

You should probably ask your doctor. He can examine the abdomen by feeling (and listening) for an obstructed area. And may want to do a simple flat plate x-ray of the abdomen when you are standing.

A severe small bowel obstux will cause vomiting of feces. Large bowel obstux may cause constipation and a watery discharge which some people mistake as diarrhea. If you think you may have one, see your doctor.

My 12 y o son has IBS. He had a couple of minor bowel obstructions (pre diagnosis with IBS) when he was suffering with C a year or two ago, which showed up on and Xray and also on palpation by doctor, as Flux recommended. Good luck!

Your GI can tell you if you have one without taking x rays. I am sure that you are familiar with the routine: he sticks his finger in and places the feces on a slide to check for blood etc...He feels around the lower abdomen for sensetivities ( which are always there any ways). Are you throwing up feces? It isn't fun, scarey to be precise. I know that you suffer from constipation, like I do, have you tried all the usual cures for the pain and spasms. I know it sucks to call the doc and then have it turn out to be "nothing" or all in your head: I hate my doc, but you know your body. I'd give it a few more days. I think that one time you said you went 15 days without a bm. How does this compare? Pain on a scale of one to ten?I hope it gets better. I know how truelly scarey and painfully debilitating this can be, let me know, hang in there

For the "record" it was 5 days without a BM.
HA HA! That was bad enough!

I am having long, thin stool and have resorted to using a Fleet enema to get things "out". I also use MOM. My pain isn't too intense as long as I'm emptying my bowels and not eating much. I also have bleeding hemmhroids! UGH! I need to get back to my doctor this next week. His nurse was supposed to call me last week, but never did. This is the story of my life - they just don't care! I am fighting my primary care doctor to allow me to get a "second opinion". So far he won't approve it and my insurance won't cover it. I am making some headway as the "committee" is considering a women GI doctor here in town for me to see.
I am hopeful!

I need some hard-fast answers to what to do and what is going on. I am SICK of feeling so lousy all the time! The drug I'm on, Neurontin, is helping with pain. I also take Librax. I hate to "mask" a problem that may be something more than "IBS" which is what my doctor thinks. The battle rages on fighting the doctors who have basically labeled me "neurotic". I am NOT, I have a real problem!

Thanks for posting a reply to me.
