Hey everyone!

I have the D type of IBS with bouts of C. I always have a general feeling in my lower abdomen of dissettlement. There are always burping and gurgly sounds coming from there that can become quite annoying. I also have a dull achy-like feeling in my lower left abdomen. Occassionally I'll get more sharp pains in my lower right abdomen. I have a problem with severe bloating and gas. I have tried walking (3 miles at least 3-4 times a week), drinking lots of water, and doing abdominal exercises and yoga. Nothing eases the bloating. I also have severe sharp pain around my rectum for about 5-10 mins after I go potty (whether it be D or a hard, huge stool after a bout of C). What type of sensations does your IBS give you?

Thanks a lot for helping,

Hi Linny: I get the same thing as you do, except for the rectal pain after a b.m. I get gurgling sounds, a constant unsettled feeling, and a sensation that I can "feel everything" in my intestines as they churn and gurgle and distress and embarass me. Grrrr! I get fed up to the point that I want to cry or scream sometimes. For the moment, I am trying Prodiem (pro-dee-um for those who aren't familiar with it), and I'm hoping it will help. The pain gets so bad sometimes that I'm doubled over. I have used laxatives, gone off milk and milk products, used stool softeners, taken anti-gas remedies, even given myself enemas hoping for some kind of relief. I can hardly stand it some days, but I go on. Like you, I drink plenty of water, exercise, cycle, take saunas and whirlpools for the aches and pains, and I eat very good, low-fat foods. I truly hope that there is an answer in store for us all, and I wish you good luck. I'm going to be here at the BB for a while, so if I hear of something, I will keep everyone posted.

I too have the gurgling noises. I also get lower abdominal pain, usually on both sides and in the middle. I occasionally get nauseated. I also get gas pain quite often, which can occur anywhere. It can be extremely painful. Heartburn occasionally also, which at times is also very painful, and feels like someone is crushing my chest. I have pain before and sometimes during bowel movements, but usually not afterwards. I have alternating D and C (D most of the time), and the C usually causes me to double over in pain, it hurts so bad! Take care! K
