I'm a real novice at cyberspace and have had nothing but troubles with this new HP Pavilion 6360 since I brought it home the weekend after Thanksgiving, so bear with my being nervous about downloading things.

I went and looked at the ICQ site and the first thing I saw was the warning about it being, I think, a beta project and that they would not be liable for damage to files etc.

Scared me off, but I would like to be able to at least observe the chat with Dr. Salt this Sunday. I guess if I want to do that I need to download the ICQ and have time to read the instructions on how to use. Any suggestions?

I have ICQ. You dont have to be scared, I'm a novice too, just got on the net in October. But dont be afraid of ICQ, it's a good program. Just download it, and follow the steps, its easy once you get started. In regards to the beta project and damaging the files, I dont know anything about that and my files are fine. Once you get ICQ, we could chat on there, its fun.

I've been using it for a couple of months (the beta) and haven't had any trouble. Seems pretty good, and saves me a FORTUNE keeping in touch with my son in Hawaii.
You can't *imagine* what those phone bills used to be like

It is perfectly safe. I have been using it for over a year now and could not imagine life without it!! By the way...it has been a beta since it's incepetion a few years back. Also, ICQ was just acquired by AOL, perhapse this will make you feel better...or maybe worse !

ICQ is a great program - it won't bite - just go ahead and download it. I have had it for a couple of years - there is so much you can do with it!

Will wait for a few more days and then download it. Hewlett Packard has me running in something called "Diagnostic Mode" right now which they say means some of my files and programs will not be loaded, so I don't want to mess anything up with that. Too bad, I guess I will miss the 1-17 chat room.
Thanks for all your help, suggestions and support.
