This is my first time in this site. Having just experienced a very bad night with IBS, I was yet again figuring I must have cancer. The nausea and pain were frightening (again). I was diagnosed with IBS 20 years ago and have experienced all the the things I have read about in your messages - travel worries (the D thing), loss of work, husband (who is normally wonderfully supportive) getting annoyed, worry it was something worse, etc. I spent a lot of time going through all of the digestive disorder sites making sure it's just nasty IBS again. This one has been bad - alternating D and C - and waking up at night nauteous, gassy and bloated. Nothing seems to be working - meds, diet, relaxation exercises. I am feeling a little depressed to say the least. But I did get some good tips I will try - thanks! Anyway, I was in tears reading all of your messages - so nice to know others feel like I do!! Sorry this is so long. God bless you all. (We need it.) If any of you are interested, I'd love to chat and share frustrations.

I know exactly how you feel. I am in my early 40's and have had ibs since I was 13. (For a long time I just thought it was a spastic colon.) After surgery for reflux disease and also having my gall bladder removed (both in the last 2 years), it seems to be worse than ever. And now I am changing jobs and graduating from college this spring, and I wish that my system would just settle down and let me enjoy the moment, but that is not to be. But, I refuse to give up. We can't let this illness get the best of us!! It is comforting to know that we all have each other to turn to. I get really depressed too, since my diet is so severely restricted as a result of all 3 diseases. I don't enjoy eating out anymore and I have virtually turned into a hermit. If it wasn't for work, I probably wouldn't go out at all. Any my husband, bless his heart, has been very patient, but is getting weary of my lack of interest in most everything. Take care and if I can be of further support, please e-mail me.

WELCOME Heykate!

No...you are deffinitely NOT alone, & considering there is no cure or magic pill to help us I truly believe that sharing with others who understand is the best way to help yourself.
This is a wonderful place full of wonderful people & it has been the best medicine for me. I hope you stick around!

Hi, Heykate,
Welcome to a site that will make you realize others understand. Come back often and you will problably learn some questions to ask your doctor so that your worst fears will be alleviated. Then pick up some tips on those real life fears of how to live with ibs.

HeyKate,

You sound alot like myself! I've had IBS for 19 years but these last five months have just about undone me! All new symptoms (more like most people seem to hve on this board) diarrhea, cramping, weight loss, depletion, had four tests, negative for anything, doctor says nothing wrong but I'm convinced to feel this bad there must be something seriously wrongwith me. I've never had anything that won't heal itself before and it scares me silly. No sooner do I convince myself it's just IBS when I have a little set back and am scared all overagain which makes it worse, of course, nerves and anxiety
attacks (another new thing for me this anxiety). So I don't know weather it will help you but it has helped me enormously to come to these boards and see my own symptoms there in front of me everyday. It calms me down to see so many other people with the exact same things going through it and living...not dying from cancer! In fact the boards are addicting..you come for constant reassurance that you're okay. Everyday I expect not to need it anymore but justabout everyday I still do. Hope you feel better. E-mail me if you like.
