Has anyone Ever given Any Thought with
all the chemical preservatives that are used in various type foods we eat , canned , packaged etc , that our Gut's may be Allergic to these preservatives ,and this is the reaction our bodies give us from these chemicals used on those foods ?
A great Question to ask Dr. Salt I think !
Even He may not know the answer to this question ! I think this could be the source of Our problems. Please post your replys here.

Hi Glenda, I agree with you, I think there is too much chemicals, preservatives in our food. I feel so much better since I cut out ALL packaged food. I make everything I eat. It's a real pain but the efforts have paid off. Just this past summer, I had nausea every single day after I ate. I keept a food diary for 5 weeks, and it didn't tell me much, I could not find the offensive food, except that I ate too much packaged food. I cut out all this stuff even bread, and things are really good now. I only have nausea when I try to cheat use shake & bake or microwave popcorn. Sometimes I find it so hard to eat well all the time and I dont always have the time to make my own muffins, but somehow I find the time because I know I cant eat the store bought ones, even in health food stores. I dont really know if all of it affects me but I dont take chances. I also concentrate on using high fiber because I'm a C type. I'm doing fairly well and I have not had too many flare ups. My friends ask me how I can eat so well all the time, but when you know something makes you sick, its not that hard to pass up. Anyway, hope this helps.

Silver , I am so glad to see someone else agree with My idea. No matter What we eat
it does have some type of Preservative in it.
Canned goods , packaged foods , etc.
Pastries in the bakeries , breads etc.
Stop and read some of the things that go in the can/package and you'll be amazed
It's almost to the point where No matter what we eat , it's being preserved by something to have a long shelf life. I believe this is at the root of all IBS trouble. Doctor's don't seem to be able to locate the problem behind what we are suffering with. It sound's like maybe I have figured out what could be causing it. Any more opinions on this , please reply to this posting. Even Dr.Salt's opinion would be appreciated.

Silver: Try baking in large batches and freezing your muffins, wrap well, removing air from bag etc and they'll stay as good as fresh for 2-3 weeks and you'll be able to enjoy your own baking and stay feeling good.

Yes ,yes, yes Diet has a lot to do with how
our bodies work. For me not only making my own foods (no additives) helped but giving up the starches and sugars has helped where nothing else did. I have been following the SCD for about 2 weeks and have less gas. Which was my big problem. Not cured yyet but getting better.
I worked in a tomatao cannery years ago and the stuff they use to make the juice out of was terrible. Rotten tomatoes with maggots in them. I either can my own juice or buy the whole tomatoes and put them in blender. That is just one example.......
Good luck with the diet. the SCD diet is not that hard to follow. Honey is allowed as sweetner.

Hi, Joyce. I'm on the SCD, too (for about 6 months). Do you know about the SCD support mailing list? If you've got the time, email me and tell me how you're doing, maybe we can exchange some SCD "war stories"!

Perhaps you may be sensitive to wheat/gluten as well. There are many *good* recipes out there for breads made with brown rice flour, potato starch and the like. I'm allergic to wheat. As far as the preservatives are concerned, I TOTALLY agree with your theory. My son made a beautiful fruit salad and I had a strong adverse reaction to it. He made it with all canned fruit....something to look into...

Chemical preservatives in food are there for a reason: prevent spoiling. This is a good thing.

A few people might have reactions to a few of the food additives, but for most part, this idea is not the case.

Also, the SCD is one of those fad diets that has no basis in science.

Also, to have a "basis in science" there must be someone willing to study it scientifically. Since there's certainly no profit potential in it for the pharmaceutical companies, and there's no political pressure for the government to fund a study of it, who do you supposed is going to volunteer to spend millions of dollars to conduct a "scientific" study?
But you're right about it being a "fad" diet,
its only been around since (at least) the late sixties, probably won't last.
