I have had this awful pain under my ribs on the right side. It comes and goes. Sometimes it will continue for 3-4 days, then it will disappear for a week or 2, but it always comes back! It feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife right in the center of the lowest rib. I can't pinpoint any specific time this happens and of course, every time I go to make an appointment with the doctor, the pain is gone...HELP! This hurts!

Dear Ava,
I know all too well what you are feeling.
I can't say what your pain is from of course but mine is from my bile duct spasming & not draining properly.
I would suggest you GO to the doc. even if it dissapears.
Good luck & feel free to e-mail me if the pain hits & you need an ear!

Sass,
Thanks for your response! I wanted to add something to my earlier topic.......
2 years ago, I had a kidney stone in the right kidney. The pain I've been feeling under my ribs seemed to start soon after pasing the stone. (Probably unrelated, but worth a shot!) I have been back to the doctor at least 10 times and have had numerous tests. They tell me NOTHING is wrong with me, but still can't explain this pain! I'm calling the doctor now.

Hey Ava I too have this pain in the lower right rib dont know when it started I thought it was a pulled muscle then the pain started feeling more intense. It hurts more after eating if I have over indulged a little and nothing helps it it hits when I move a certain way or bend in that direction. If you find out anything let us know my dr has just about give up on me I guess its time to find another.

I went to the doctor yesterday. After pushing and prodding my stomach and ribs, his diagnosis was "possible IBS". He said I was too young(32)for Gallstones and since the pain is not usually immediately after I eat. He asked me to keep a diary for 2 weeks. He wants to know what I eat (exactly) and what time of day I eat. I guess he's trying to see what my trigger foods are...he also prescribed Lovsine (sp?) which he said will relax the smooth muscle within the large intestine.
He said it is not habit forming, and I won't feel high from it. I'll let you know my progress......
