Charlie, I don't know much about fibromyalgia, but I know a lady who suffers from it. She has horrific pain in her muscles-they knot up all over her body; esp. in her back. The knots are visible to the eye! Her tx is muscle relaxers, pain pills, heat and injection of trigger points. Good luck!

????? for Parkview. This is actually how I found this site looking for information on fibromyalgia for my husband. Whatever happened to that section of the bulletin board? Was there no interest?

Hi Charlie,
I have fibro & let me tell ya, for me...I.B.S
is a breeze compared to it!
When I first started showing signs of it about 8& a half years ago I was miss-diagnosed & shoved around to many doctors as "they" didn't even know of it then. I.B.S is listed as a symptom of fibro., it is all so clear to me NOW! I first came down with the fibro, then the I.B.S about 4 years later!
Some of the symptoms are chronic muscular/joint pain, forgetfulness, dizziness, inability to concentrate, sleep dissorders etc. It gos on & on.
When reading up on fibro & I.B.S you find many similarities between the two.
There is no one test (that I know of) to diagnose this, as with I.B.S it is a frustrating process of elimination!

Rose,

We ended up removing the section because there was not any activity. If you would like I can put it back up, or if you have other suggestions for forums just let me know!

I was diagnosed with fibro a few months ago. The doctor mentioned that he was also supporting his diagnosis on my abdominal symptoms. There are alot of good books on the topic. Also - I learned, from this board, that DATELINE is having a special on Fibromyalgia. Turns out I have gall bladder problems also. It took 3 years to get a diagnosis - after daily headaches, neck pains, back pains, numbness, dizziness, etc. etc. I have been seeing a specialized physical therapist that has worked wonders. I go weekly for now. The headaches and backaches subsided after the first 2 treatments. You may want to consider this avenue if nothing else has helped thusfar. Also, supplements recommended for fibromyalgia have also helped. After taking them for 2 weeks, I had felt better than I had in years. Best of luck to you.

Hi Charlie I am very new here just joined I was diagnosed 13 years ago with Fibromyalgia, I was misdiagnosed since age 3 with jevinille rhematoid arthrits. I have suffered greatly with firbromyalgia. Mine acts up just like a person with arthritis. when it rains out it acts up. I am suppose to be takeing Dolobid and Flexerall but because of my stomach problems I can not. For me If I had a choice which one to get rid of my stomach problems or my Fibro I would say my stomach. The tylenlol I can take will help a very little but one my husband rubs my legs or hip or back with rubbing alcohol that helps to also use of a heating pad. I rememeber the endless nights as a little girl my mother coming into my room to rub my legs and if that didn't work my dad would carry me to the warm bath tub. My legs swell up and actually get red. That is all I can really say about Fibro

MaryAnn - Try using moist heat 2x per day. It does alot to help - especially neck pain. My fibro acts up with the weather as well. My wrists and ankles just ache with high air pressure. Have you tried any physical therapy?

Hi Charlie:
I was diagnosed 8 years ago with fibromyalgia, but I think it's been with me for 14 years. I have pain throughout my body, fatigue, foggy brain, dizziness, sleepless nights. It feels like having the flu all the time. As time goes by, I've been able to deal with the pain a bit better (using tylenol and muscle relaxants). The worst part for me is the fatigue. At first, I fought it all the time. But now, I just accept the fact that some days will not be so good, so I just take it easy on those days. The days I feel better I do more. The weather I find definitely plays a role in the way I feel. Usually in the fall and winter I don't feel as well, but when spring arrives I usually get better. I hope to enroll in yoga or relaxation classes soon. My girlfriend has it, and she did weekly massages and tai chi and she has improved immensely. The hard part for fibro patients is that we look ok from the outside, but inside we are agonizing. My family doctor says that there is a definite connection between fibro and IBS. Most people who have fibro also have IBS. Now that I look back, I had my first IBS attack about 14 years ago. It was so painful, I thought I was dying. Now I'm so use to it, I just try to stay away from foods that might stir it up. I also found that strenuous repetitive type exercise also stirred up my fibro. We live on a farm and every summer we would do haying (lifting between l500 to 2000 bales of hay. By the end of it all, my body is so sore that it takes about a month for me to get back on my feet. Walking seems to help me greatly. I hear swimming is also good. I would love to hear from other fibro sufferers. It's always good to share info. Take care.

Dear lilsis:

Do you know when the fibro show will be aired on Dateline? I would love to watch it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Weener - it was on 1/4/00 - but they have a website - perhaps it still has the fibro info. www\dateline.msnbc.com I visited last night after the show. It was informative, but the books I've been reading are much much more helpful.

Charlie- Birdie here again. My mom, the one you helped with the GB info also has Fibro & reuhmatiod arthritis. The fibro goes along with IBS often. I often wonder if I have fibro too. You get tired often, pain & aches, and usually you don't go into deep sleep which is something the doctors think may be the cause of Fibro. My mother who use to run everyday & do marathons is limited to 2-5 miles a day now. I wish I could accomplish just one. But she has flares where she's completely incapacitate & she also has stomach problem. I think she may have IBS too.
Well, wish I had more time but I have to catch my flight now.
Later, Birdie.
