Some of you have indicated that you plan to contact the Oprah Winfrey show about IBS. FYI, IBS is the most common digestive tract disorder, and is the most common of the 25 functional GI disorders, affecting 15 to 20 percent of people in the United States - although it is a world-wide problem.

IBS accounts for at least 8 billion dollars of physician, laboratory, and radiology charges annually in the U.S. alone. This cost estimate would be much higher if the additional expenses and indirect costs, such as missing work (and IBS is the second leading cause of this in America) were factored into the equation. Of course, the misery and illness related to these functional disorders are incalculable.

We recommend that you not only review the information available here at Parkview Publishing (www.parkviewpub.com), but that you also visit (and join) The International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD), which calls IBS, "America's Hidden Health Problem"
AND
The University of North Carolina Center for Functional GI Disorders (www.med.unc.edu/medicine/fgidc/welcome.htm)
You can heal.

I would just like to add to charlie's words my own compliments and thanks to Dr. Salt and Brad. While no one can or should really speak for the board, I would bet that 99.9+% of the participants would vote this THE BEST board on the net! In fact, a few have said (and I would likewise say) that they'd stay on the board even if their IBS went away.

You are good folks to be sponsoring this board for us.

THANKS...BJ
