It would be helpfull if anyone knows whether does IBS causes any form of colon cancer after a certain period of time? What are the chances?

Dear RAZ, Flux is right. I was particularly concerned about this since my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer this year and has had IBS most of her life. The good Doc and my own personal research has shown no link between the two. I have read that inflammatory bowel disease like colitis or chrons(sp?) can lead to a higher risk of colon cancer. Anyone? RAZ--bite your damned tongue hard!!! there are people in this world who may panic at a suggestion like that no matter how illogical. any more questions like that would be best put to docj at his e-mail. the only time i can remember being in agreement with the nameless one...norma

There is no increased risk of ANY malignancy with IBS. There is an increased risk of GI malignancy with IBD.

RAZ, I thought it was a very reasonable question, and the kind that many people like answers to. Better to ask questions about things you are worried about than to stew about them and increase your stress level.

ditto - I hope no one is afraid to ask questions when they are curious or scared or whatever - that's what this is all about right?

i asked the same question when i developed ibs shortly after my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. it is a normal, scary worry to have and everyone is right...ibs in and of itself does not cause colon cancer.
hope you breathe a sigh of relief!

well the reason i liked hanging out here was that no-one tried to link this very inconvenient and sometimes quite painful complaint with anything as heavy as the big 'c'.unless you have a family propensity for worrying about a connection between the two things (and i am truly sorry and wholly understanding of your concerns if that is the case) i don't see the point of even thinking about it in connection with ibs, doesn't it make more sense to discuss cancer with friends on a cancer bb.since i seem to be in a minority and i'm the one who chooses not to deal with it until i have to, i'll say goodbye and it's been real...norma
